As a kid, the land speeder was my favorite toy vehicle. The design is visually appealing and the right size for other action figures like the Micronauts… Of course in my imagination the ship was also a space cruiser, traveling from planet to planet in search of adventures! I wonder what it would have been like if they kept the original book title and working TV movie name: Cyborg. Chances are the show would still have been popular, and probably make “Cyborg” a much more common word back then. The word was first used in 1960 by a scientist, 12 years before the novel was published. The word does seem more adult, mysterious, … Continue reading Six Million Dollar Man or Cyborg?
I wish I could speak Spanish! A friend of the site gave me this. Over 120 pages of Six Million Dollar Man comics- which seems to be an origin story? The first of many paper models for vintage action figures. Based on models I designed back in the late 90s (anyone remember my Paperblox designs from years ago?). You only need some photo paper, xacto knife and glue! In the coming weeks I will be releasing modular pieces like wings and other compatible shapes for these and others I will be designing. People have used … Continue reading Download Paper Models for Action Figures!

Warren Publishing put out this magazine when the movie premiered. I’ve read that George Lucas was a big fan of Famous Monsters of Filmland magazine growing up, maybe that led to this special edition? I was a little bummed when I discovered this game wasn’t really “digital” or “electronic”. At 10 years old I took it apart only to discover the batteries were only to power the light. And you could play the game in bright sunlight permitting you to see through the dark plastic cover and the “ball” in this tennis-type game. Continue reading 1977 Tomy’s Blip
A big year for the GI Joe line after it’s 1982 relaunch into the 3 3/4″ scale made popular by the huge success of the Star Wars toys. Always fun to see the dioramas and sometimes the toys were just prototypes made for marketing before actual manufacturing began. Continue reading Catalog Close-Ups: 1983

Any love for these blackjack games from the 70s? I can remember getting one for my birthday- although I had no interest in gambling as a kid, this game was fun and had a “sci-fi computer” vibe… with just a little fantasy I could feel like I’m interacting with a machine from Star Trek. A couple of files for your reading pleasure, one of which being a 70s Star Trek Fotonovel! These Trek Fotonovels were so important to us fans- before VCRs these books were the only way we could study sets and props without taking an actual photograph of your TV screen. As a bonus you did get “thought balloons”, which worked well in this comic book type … Continue reading Vintage 70s Downloads
Many a bored afternoon I spent turning the thin, crispy pages of the Sears Christmas catalog (AKA The Wish Book) and dreaming of the possibilities if I could own just a few of those toys! As a kid I had the King Kong version of Avalon’s Paint ‘n Wear series of iron-ons. These were black and white designs which, once transferred to shirt, would be painted by you using supplied paint and color guide. I don’t remember how successful I was as a kid on this craft project. But recently, during coloring myself, I was a bit bummed to discover … Continue reading Download Vintage Tarzan Iron-On Designs from 1976
Many of us fondly remember these as we were hungry for anything sci-fi related after Star Wars in ’77. The scale was perfect to play alongside R2-D2 and Luke and all the Kenner 3 3/4″ figures and other lines of similar size. I can remember watching Jason of Star Command with his little robot named W1K1 (“wiki” for short) and imagining my own adventures with … Continue reading Tomy’s Rascal Robots
